PHILLY'S LARGEST EARTH DAY EVENT

About the Run

The 31st Annual 5K Run for Clean Air and Earth Day Celebration will take place April 21st, 2012. The course starts at the Philadelphia Art Museum and runs along Martin Luther King Drive. Arriving back at the finish line, the Clean Air Council has invited its partners and sponsors to participate in the Earth Day Celebration, providing an opportunity for community participants to hear about the latest Green event news, resources, and trends.

The 5K Run for Clean Air is a community effort to decrease the air pollution that triggers asthma and other respiratory problems in our families, as well as support programs that reduce waste in favor of increased recycling and composting and slow down global warming.

About the Walk

New for 2012, a 3K Walk event has been added so that everyone can participate in Philadelphia's largest Earth Day event! People young and old are encourage to come out. Families can enjoy fun walker award categories, so come in costume, deck out the family dog or come up with a cool Earth Day cheer.

Over the past three decades, the 5K Run for Clean Air has grown into Philadelphia’s largest Earth Day Celebration, a certified green event, and much more. Located on the beautiful banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the Run is a celebration of sustainable and healthy neighborhoods, clean air, and improvements to the region’s overall environmental health. Award medals and prizes will be given out to 3K Walk Teams in the following categories:

Top Fundraising Team  The team that collectively raises the most funds for Clean Air Council programmatic work. 

Most Multi-Generational Team  The team that has the widest range of family generations participating in the walk.

Most Spirited Team  The team that displays the most spirit via cheers, chants, waves, jumps, smiles and self-decoration.

Best Earth-Day Themed Team Ensemble  The team wherein every member dresses in a highly creative Earth-Day-theme-inspired costume, which is attractive and meaningful to the cause.

Team Litterbug Busters  The team that collects the most litter along the walk course to be turned in and properly disposed of at the walk’s end will win medals for this achievement. Reusable collection bags will be provided to walkers.

Award medals and prizes will be given out to 3K Walk Teams in the following categories:

 

Top Fundraising Female and Male  The woman and man, not members of a team, who singularly raise the most funds for Clean Air Council programmatic work.

 

Youngest Walker  The youngest registered participant in the walk.

Oldest Walker  The oldest registered participant in the walk.

Most Spirited Female and Male  The woman and man, not members of a team, who display the most spirit via cheers, chants, waves, jumps, smiles and self-decoration.

Best Earth Day Themed Ensemble  The individual, not a member of a team, who dresses in a highly creative Earth-Day-theme-inspired costume, which is attractive and meaningful to the cause.

Best Litterbug Buster  The individual, not a member of a team, who collects the most litter along the walk course to be turned in and properly disposed of at the walk’s end will win medals for this achievement. Reusable bags will be provided to walkers.
