General Information

Clean Air Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works through public education, citizen-based advocacy, and government oversight to protect everyone's right to breathe clean air. The Council was founded in 1967 by a group of forward-looking policy makers, physicians, businesses, and community leaders from Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Bylaws, written in 1967, still guide the work of the Council, namely, "to inform and educate the public concerning the health, economic, and aeshetic effects of air pollution and the technological and legal tools available for its control." Headquartered in Philadelphia, the Council focuses on a number of environmental issues affecting the region including: indoor air pollution, children's environmental health, neighborhood toxics, global warming, alternative energy, waste reduction, and sustainable transportation.
